Landlords – why a busy events calendar is appealing to tenants

, , , ,

For a local area to be attractive to tenants, it helps if it has a busy events calendar to keep people entertained, occupied and stimulated.

Here at Parkgate Estates, we are lucky enough to operate in some of London’s most popular and desirable areas – Richmond, Mortlake, Sheen and Putney – where there is always plenty going on for people to enjoy, whether you’re a young professional, a retiree or a family with young kids.

Richmond, of course, offers riverside walks, a magnificent park and charming local pubs, while Putney is home to Putney Heath, Putney Common and Wandsworth Park – offering locals an incredible amount of green space right on their doorstep. It also has an iconic bridge, a wide range of eateries and easy access to the Thames and Craven Cottage (home to recently promoted Fulham FC).

Below, we take a look at some of the events taking place in Richmond and Putney this summer, which could prove popular to tenants eager to live in a thriving part of the capital…

Run Richmond Park

The Run Richmond Park race series – which allows people to run either 5k or 10k – takes place at regular intervals throughout the summer. Participants can enjoy the beautiful parkland – and a few challenging hills – as they race around one of London’s finest green spaces.

The runs take place on Saturdays, kicking off at 10:00am, and cost £15 per person. Wild fallow and red deer roam freely in Richmond Park, so you can combine a run with a bit of wildlife spotting.

Kew the Music

Another popular event in the summer months, taking place at the majestic Royal Botanic Gardens Kew, Kew the Music features an eclectic catalogue of performers – from Steps to The Human League and Boyzone to The Gipsy Kings.

Held from Tuesday 10 July to Sunday 15 July, the concerts encourage people of all ages to enjoy the sun, a picnic and a glass of something refreshing in front of some brilliant live music.

Tickets are expected to disappear fast, so people wanting to catch their music fix this summer are advised to book early to avoid disappointment

The Luna Cinema

Open air screenings of classic films are brought to Putney courtesy of The Luna Cinema, which screens great movies in beautiful or prestigious settings.

This July Wandsworth Park plays host to two screenings – Baz Luhrmann’s musical rom-com Moulin Rouge! and the critically acclaimed Shape of Water, one of 2017’s biggest film hits – giving visitors the chance to enjoy classic cinema under the stars in an unspoilt location overlooking the Thames.

Situated on the South Bank of the Thames, just to the side of Putney Bridge, the Grade II listed park was first opened to the public in 1903 and has become a popular place to switch off from the stresses and strains of city life ever since. Now it’s becoming an open-air cinema for two summer nights, with food and drink available on-site.

The Half Moon

One of the most popular pubs and live music venues in London, The Half Moon – located near the banks of the Thames at Putney Bridge – has a history to rival the best of them. The Who, U2 and the Rolling Stones have all played there, and this summer a number of events will take place at the thriving gastropub, from Rock n Roll Football and quiz nights to sumptuous Sunday Roasts and a full programme of bands, DJ sets, acoustic music, comedy and other live entertainment.

Marcus Brigstocke, Reginald D Hunter, Noa Alvarez and tribute bands to Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and U2 are just some of the events coming up to entice the punters in.

Museum of Richmond

The museum plays host to a number of kid-friendly events throughout the summer, including Prehistoric Arts and Crafts: Roman Mosaics, an Archaeology Summer School and Prehistoric Arts and Crafts: Anglo Saxons & Weaving.

If you’re eager to keep your children occupied this summer, Richmond Park also offers plenty to keep the little ones (and the not so little ones) amused, with two playgrounds, the chance to hire bikes and wide open spaces for an epic game of hide and seek. There are also plenty of refreshment points on hand to keep everyone well fed and watered.

Very often, tenants will be attracted to areas with plenty going on – in particular young professionals, who make up a large chunk of the London rental market. Families, too, will want to know they live in an area where they can keep their children amused during the summer holidays, with plenty of green space and kid-friendly events on offer.

If, as a landlord, your rental property can provide easy access to an area with a busy events calendar and a buzzing social scene, your chances of letting your home with ease will be greater.

Very responsive, informative and always kind people. We didn't have much time, but they helped us with creating some time in their agenda and squeezing us in. We rented our place just in time, thanks to them.

Parkgate has been my agent of choice for a number of years now and has secured good tenants for my properties. They are hard working, respond in a timely manner and best of all are always friendly rather than aggressive or overbearing, which is the case with many of their competitors.

Excellent service throughout. We rented a property that they manage for 4 years.Parkgate team is very professional and approachable. Way better than dealing with a big agency, they offer a more personal approach, always available and willing to solve any issues. From the tenancy agreement to handing the property back, it has been a real pleasure working with them.

I have had an eight year relationship with Parkgate, in fact they originally sold my flat to me 12 years ago in Putney. Their service and professionalism is unrivalled. They managed the leasing of my flat from 2014 and assisted me to negotiate the successful sale just now in 2022. Chris has been there throughout with an open door and no request too trivial to assist. Klaudia negotiated my sale and worked with amazing tenacity throughout. I would not hesitate to recommend Parkgate to anyone in the Putney/Richmond area, they know their stuff.

We have had a wonderful experience with Parkgate and would highly recommend them. Chris was brilliant on the valuation - what we liked is he was totally honest about our chances of selling and gave us the positives and negatives about our property (such as facing a council estate!). Other agents tend to just gush over the good bits which is great, but actually not that helpful. The selling process was great - we were given good feedback from the viewings and got the price we wanted within about 8 weeks. We really have nothing but praise for Klaudia and Chris, it's been really enjoyable, easy and stress free and we will be recommending Parkgate to all our friends in the area and our building.***** Thank you! *****
